We don't get to shape who we are. In fact, most of us have to do work later in life in order to operate in the world as healthy beings. The influences in our lives are not chosen until we have the ability to take the reins ourselves. My experience was slowly waking to that realization. In the process I was uncomfortable with that power. I had to see where I was now not as a series of missed opportunities I had to get right, but as a chance to embrace who I was now and trust I could make a decision for what was next. This piece speaks to that universal and underlying truth we all wrestle with this realization. It is a starkly vertical piece to enhance the imperfect form. To show off all the crevices, bumps, and breaks. To draw attention to the strength and presence it has because of the authentic markings it holds.

From my ‘Moments of Oblivion’ Collection: For decades I took in the information that formed this collection. All the moments that felt like they would destroy me. Whether it was deep loneliness, broken relationships, breaking from what I had been taught, or incredibly hard conversations. These moments felt like oblivion was upon me. A lot of growth came through this phase of life, so while the collection title is a bleaker one, the empowerment and resilience felt is baked into each of these pieces and the way they stand strong.

We don’t all get the opportunity to shape who we are. In fact, most of us have to do work later in life in order to operate in the world as healthy beings. This piece speaks to that universal and underlying truth that no one lives life without being shaped by their experiences. While some trauma is bigger than others, it all impact the way we are. In this detailed view we see all the crevices, bumps, and trails left behind on the surface. These authentic markings are stunning to me. Yet, I can't help but think about how we all have blemishes, stretch marks, and areas we tell ourselves "aren't beautiful". Flipping that internal story is what this piece is about. You were shaped the way you grew, and once you are aware, you can change how you see these marks. Physical marks or emotional ones. Beauty isn't the goal. Resilience is. And your makes can be moments of reminders of your resilience.

  • Mugs are a healthy 15oz. Trust me when I say it is the size you want when settling into a conversation over coffee or tea. It's big enough to hold pencils or brushes. 

  • Tote bags are double sided durable canvas. Come in 3 sizes that can cover you for groceries, quick trips out or beach days.
