My hardest conversations have been in romantic relationships. I didn't grow up witnessing disagreement or resolution by adult figures. That was all done out of earshot I guess. So the first time I ever had to stand in a true hard conversation was with a partner, as a near adult. It sounds like a charmed existence, and perhaps it was until I found myself in what felt like a middle of a marathon in the Mojave desert having only ever gone for a light stroll around the block at best. No training, no experience. All sink or swim. What I've learned since then is each time you sit in that difficult space, your resilience grows. Forming deeper roots and stronger limbs. You learn not to lose touch with yourself in those spaces because they are essential for a soul-filled, connected life.
