BLUSHING features a piece of Elsie, the 150 year old Maple that started it all for me. When we had to take down because she had become a danger an epic split running all the way down to ground. We couldn't stomach being the one who had to make the decision to take her down, so through thoughtful planning we had her cut and milled so she could have a second life.
 
The yellows in this piece remind me of the show Elsie would put on in the fall when all of her leaves turned yellow and the whole property glowed warm because of it. The verticality of this particular piece of bark struck me. That is what this piece focuses on accentuating and balancing. The swirling, parallel movement built with soft pinks, yellows and gold leaf softens and blends the textures into one unified composition.
