Hello, I'm jaclyn.
I am a texturist, painter and nature enthusiast. I am influenced heavily by nature and textures, and I bring them together in my work.
The "why" behind my work.
As an artist, I focus on expressing how I see and experience life. And in my life, nature has been a constant. For both getting me into the present moment, and for fueling awe, wonder and discovery. I know I'm not alone in this, and I love to connect with others who feel the same way.
I can’t go for a hike without stopping to look at small moments like the colorful dance lichen takes as it grows up rain soaked tree bark. Or the contrast between the old tough tree roots and the soft mosses encompassing them. It took me a while to realize not everyone sees these moments— and that was the moment I discovered my unique artist’s lens.
When I’m working on a piece, my goal is to highlight what about the natural element stopped me originally. I create a reimagined, heightened moment using color, layers and natural textures. So that through my work, I can give you the same permission to pause I feel. Maybe feel some of that same wonder.
And if a piece of mine you bring into your home sparks this, and gets you curious about other moments in nature you could see, then I’ve achieved my mission.
I’ve been a trees and grass person as long as I can remember. I spent endless hours exploring in the woods, hiking on trails and laying in the grass identifying trees and plants by their textures and colors. I had too many rock and leaf collections to count. There was so much beauty in each of their colors and textures I felt deserved to be seen and experienced. It wasn’t until years later that I’d realize this was my unique artist lens. I earned my BFA. I studied design, art history and learned classic painting techniques. And while I connected with the artist’s deep, intrinsic motivations, the techniques I learned held no soul for me. Now, having returned to painting and incorporated natural elements into my mixed media pieces, I see it as an incredibly invigorating and expressive medium. The first time I physically combined nature and art was electric and intuitive all at once. It has sparked an undeniable urge to give others the experience I have in nature through my art. It expresses not only the awe, but the deep breath and permission to pause that I feel. By expressing my unique views and sharing the value that I have found in them, I aim to spread awe for discovering small moments in the natural world.
